The nuns in the little sisters of the poor have been to the forefront in providing care to the elderly across Waterford for generations now. I know this first hand, from when, as a child, I visited elderly relatives in their former premises just off Bunkers Hill. In recent years their Christmas Spinner and Summer Garden Party are amongst the highlights of the calendar in the area each year. Planting can begin now and hopefully as their creations bloom, it becomes a source of pride for them as we enter into Spring. This is a long term project and I look forward to a whole host of Ferrybank Flowers in the future.
On that occasion, they received a very positive report with all compliant and substantially compliant results from the HIQA inspectors. The same could not be said about Rockshire Care Centre however, which was visited four times since March 2020 and came close to losing its registration as a nursing home in January 2022 due to a history of “poor compliance”. Junior Minister for Older People, Mary Butler has been telling WLR News that they're not the only nursing homes to have announced they're closing recently. They also say the National Treatment Purchase Fund has been unwilling to negotiate a fair increase in the face of soaring costs and there's been no real or timely support from the government.

MANAGEMENT of Maypark Nursing Home and Rockshire Care Centre have confirmed today that they will be ceasing operations at their two nursing homes, one on Maypark Lane on the Dunmore Road and the other on the Rockshire Road in Ferrybank. Killure Bridge Nursing Home - Waterford
This facility straddles the Waterford/Kilkenny boundary and provides accommodation for 80 elderly persons . We represent the vast majority of nursing homes in Ireland, and they’re all listed here. The local Ferrybank Allotments project and Top of the City garden project have shown the kind of resilience that working on a green area to grow one’s own vegetables and seasonal flowers can have. Both have been taken up in large numbers by older persons and have been accredited with fostering friendships, teaching new skills and adding new areas of bio diversity to our urban areas. Maypark Nursing Home was last inspected by the Health Information and Quality Authority on May 26, 2021.

Residents are enabled to live in a manner similar to his or her home as much as possible. The family also denied a WLRfm report, which stated that the nursing homes were closing so that they could accommodate Ukrainian refugees.

The spokesperson said that focus would now “turn to our residents, their families and our staff as we navigate this period of transition together and we ask that their privacy is respected”. There are a total of 65 residents between the two homes and it's understood assistance will be provided to find new places for those people.
The nursing homes run by the Dwyer family have been in operation for over 40 years. They provide accommodation for up to 38 residents in each nursing home and have taken great pride in providing person-centred care to hundreds of people from Waterford, South Kilkenny and the surrounding area. “The prospect of closing the doors for the last time will be devastating for all involved. It has been a genuine honour and privilege to be entrusted with caring for all our residents alongside our dedicated staff who have and will continue to provide exceptional care,” the spokesperson said. Maypark House Nursing Home & Rockshire Care Centre have confirmed today that the challenges presented in operating a small, family-run nursing homes are proving unsustainable and they have taken the very difficult decision to cease operations. In a statement to WLR News today, the family say they made the difficult decision to close due to HIQA's "unrealistic expectations of small nursing homes". Physiotherapists provide individual person centered plans to optimise independence and function. We have several areas where they can comfortably spend time with our residents, and can also enjoy our gardens and the residents’ kitchen. Our spacious and welcoming living areas are complemented by bedrooms filled with natural light – all combining to create a beautiful environment for our residents.
